Upcoming for 2021: Events to watch!
Whilst the world still remains in some state of confusion and it seems like we won’t be getting back to any kind of real ‘normal’ events anytime soon, we thought the turn of the year would still make a great opportunity to get you excited for all of the amazing upcoming events, album releases and film releases that every music lover should have on their radar in the first half of 2021!
Here are just a few of the events this year that we’ve whacked in the calendar…and you should too!
That’s right we’re kicking things off right from the get go with some fantastic releases set for January. Firstly, Barry Gibb, iconic Bee Gees legend is set to release his latest album on January 8th entitled Greenfields which is a duets album featuring country artists Dolly Parton, Little Big Town, Alison Krauss to name just a few! The album is set to contain 11 Bee Gees tracks and one unreleased Barry Gibb track, re-imagined as country songs…If you’re a Bee Gees fan, this is not a release to miss!
Secondly, Arlo Parks a rising British singer-songwriter and poet from West London who has become known for incredible poetics and a fresh sound is due to release her second album Collapsed In Sunbeams on the 29th Jan. Arlo’s sound may be new to many, but we love it! She made the front cover of NME in late July 2020 and won the AIM Independent Music Award for One to Watch in 2020 in August 2020.
To round off January, who doesn’t love the Grammy’s?! The Grammy Award ceremony is still set to continue to be broadcasted on the 31st January. This will be the 63rd Annual event and recognise the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, running from September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020. This has been a fantastic year for music so there are sure to be some fantastic awards! Thus far Beyoncé has received the most nominations with nine, followed by Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, and Taylor Swift with six each.
Moving seamlessly into February, some more fantastic releases!
The sensational acapella group Pentatonix are set to return with their album The Lucky Ones, this will be their first full-length album of originals since 2015 and is set to drop in February 12, 2021. Likewise, it’ll be another big return for indie lovers London Grammar, who announced their album Californian Soil would be released on the same day! On 19 August 2020, London Grammar released ‘Baby It’s You,’ their first single since 2017…We can’t wait to hear what they’ve got in store!
Don’t worry though there will still be some classic names thrown in there too as Willie Nelson is back! The famed activist and country lover will be releasing his SEVENTY-FIRST solo studio that is scheduled to be released on February 26, 2021. The album will be yet another tribute to Frank Sinatra, it represents the second volume of Nelson’s Sinatra collection, following 2018’s My Way.
Shifting into Spring and the fun is still going on!
Delicate tones from internet sensation Dodie is set for release on 5th March with her debut full length album Build A Problem. If you’ve not heard Dodie’s sensitive tones and moving lyrics before they’re definitely worth a listen on a sultry morning!
Perhaps our favourite news of the year however comes from Ringo Starr and the announcement of his new EP Zoom In, set for release on March 19th. The EP is set to feature contributions from fellow Beatle Paul McCartney and Foo Fighters Dave Grohl (who also has another album set for release in February!). The famed drummer has been recording the five-song collection at his home studio between April and October of this year.
To round off this list, we wanted to mention two incredible interesting film adaptations of musicals that are set to hit the big screens this year. Firstly ‘In The Heights’ is set for release in June and is an adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes’ Tony Award-winning musical about the residents of the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.
Secondly, and certainly what is set to go down in film history if it’s done justice, but West Side Story will also be receiving a new film adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg. The film has already been delayed a year due to COVID-19 but by next Christmas hopefully we’ll all be sinking into a fantastic watch of Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents’ classic musical!
We hope this has left your calendar looking a little more full and given you plenty of musical moments to make sure you are a part of! Did we miss any that you’re excited for? We’d love to hear from you, use the #MillersMusic to join in the conversation!
