The W.E.Hill & Sons Peg Paste is a composition made in England. The peg paste comes in a "lipstick" form, set within a cardboard style cylindrical case. It is designed as an alternative to soap and chalk formulations to easy sticking pegs. Applying a small amount should make the pegs adjustable more smoothly.

Supplied in a lipstick tube with twist action to make it as easy as possible to apply to sticking pegs.

It can be used on a variety of instruments, mainly string instruments but including:

  • Cellos
  • Violins
  • Violas
  • Double basses
  • Lutes

Top Tips for Application

You should use the paste sparingly, applying to the area where the pegs fit in the peg box.

Sometimes when first applying, the pegs can slip a little more than you would like. This is because each instrument is different, through age, hardness of the pegs, etc. and is likely because you've applied a bit too much paste. It can take a little time to get exactly the right application for your particular instrument. The paste can be wiped off with a dry cloth and then try again.

Some players have reported an initial increase in slip but that leaving for 24 hours allows the paste to dry and hold then improves.
