How To Find The Serial Number On Your Piano

A lot of people often don't know where to find the serial number on their piano. This information is useful for not only helping determine the model of your piano, but sometimes also the date it was made and even it's potential worth. For this reason, our guide below will help you find the serial numbers for pianos from world leading manufacture brands such as C.Bechstein, W.Hoffmann, Zimmermann, Kawai and Yamaha. We intend to continue to expand this list as time goes on.

Where To Find Your Piano Serial Number

For upright pianos, the serial number is generally found in either:

  • The top right side of the iron plate (near the tuning pins)
  • At the top centre of the plate between the bass and treble sections.
  • You can normally find it easily by lifting the piano lid.

For grand pianos, the serial number is usually found:

  • On the iron plate under the music desk in the centre or on the right side of the piano (near the tuning pins).
