COMING SOON: Support to the local String community

COMING SOON: Support to the local String community

As many of our customers will know, Millers has always maintained a broad musical offer to the local musical community since its founding in 1856 with a variety of instruments, accessories, and sheet music. Obviously Retail has changed but Millers has continued to innovate, trying to provide the very best service for our clients.

During the COVID lockdowns we took the difficult decision to focus on our core piano business with the knowledge that our clients were well served by one of the local specialists. Sadly our friends at Cambridge Strings closed suddenly earlier in the summer after many years down the road from us on King Street.

We have taken the decision to develop our String offering, we feel that Cambridge and the wider East Anglian region is not well served in this category. There are of course many online retailers as well as some wonderful specialists and workshops offering incredibly quality instruments and services that more advanced players would expect.

To confirm our progress so far:

  • This Winter we will have our new String section installed offering a selection space for our range of quality 3/4-4/4 instruments, bows, and cases. We will also be able to showcase our rental instruments.
  • We already have a range of accessories available in our showroom and will be adding to our website shortly for delivery or Click & Collect
  • Similarly with our instruments, they are being added to the website as we speak and will be available shortly
  • We have a range of quality instruments including Cellos, Violins, Violas, and Double Basses in fractional sizes available for purchase or rental via our leading Money Back Rental scheme
  • We will be adding the ABRSM syllabi and are continuing to review demand for a curated range of sheet music similar to our existing piano offering
  • We will be offering a drop off and collection location for repair services to local luthiers and specialists
  • We have a series of events and other activities plan to help inspire and support you
  • We will be developing re-use and recyling options for quality instruments

It is only with the support of you, the local musical community that we will be able to make a success of this.
