Why Selling Your Piano Privately May Be
Harder Than You Think

Pianos are not like many other items we own. They are very bulky and heavy, requiring highly specialised assessment, preparation, and transportation. Traditional online marketplaces often don't work for pianos especially if slightly older so they can be difficult, if not impossible to sell, donate, or even dispose.

Unsuited to Marketplaces

Pianos don't translate well to online listings. Size, weight, and condition are impossible to convey accurately, leading to endless questions and time-wasted. In addition they can't be sent via traditional couriers leading to delays and frustration.

Months of Waiting

The average piano can take 4-6 months to sell privately, some much longer. if at all and they can be difficult to even give away. Meanwhile, it occupies valuable space and delays your plans, upgrades, and more.

Hidden Costs Mount

Listing fees, payment charges, photos, tuning for viewings, and removal costs all can eat into your final price. Not to mention your time and stress.

Safety & Logistics

Arranging viewings with strangers, coordinating specialist movers, and handling payments create security concerns many sellers underestimate. Most councils won't collect pianos as bulk waste.

How we assess your piano? We Use Our 170 Years of Experience

During our long history we've seen most types and makes of pianos so we can grade a piano without inspecting or tuning it using this accumulated knowledge and expertise.

As one of UK's largest and most experienced dealers we are able to assess the likelihood of the instrument being suitable from the details we request from you in more than 98% of applications.

Our experts can provide a quick assessment from the details provided including the make, model, and a selection of quality photos. They will generally be able to offer a yes or no quickly as a part-exchange or purchase but this is subject to condition.

In exceptional circumstances, and where we don't maintain the instrument ourselves, we may request a technician to visit and assess before we can commit to making a purchase.

Acoustic pianos and larger digital pianos generally require specialist movers and we taken into account all costs when offering a valuation. Smaller digital pianos or portable pianos can generally be disassembled and moved relatively easily and we encourage clients to bring these in or ship themselves to achieve the highest value.
