Mozart Twelve Variations in C major on Ah, vous dirai-je Maman (K.265) (Piano, with fingering)

The anonymous theme Ah, vous dirai-je Maman was known in Paris at least from 1761, and it became one of the most popular melodies for sets of variations after 1770.  Mozart apparently heard it in Paris and produced his variations on it in the summer of 1780 at the earliest or, more probably, in 1781–2 in Vienna, presumably with an eye to his teaching activities.

For the first time the 12 Variations in C major are available from Bärenreiter with tried-and-tested fingering which has been provided by well-known pianist Matthias Kirschnereit.  The edition is based on the authoritative Urtext of the New Mozart Edition and includes a Foreword on the work’s genesis and sources as well as performance suggestions.
